Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly created Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuels Industry Practice. The practice has been developed to drive accelerated, profitable growth in the broad range of energy transition technologies by developing industry specialism across lines of business. REAF IP focuses on customer needs, developing tailored multi-line products and services while simplifying the customer journey. Clients include developers and operators of renewable power assets (wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydro, wave & tidal), alternative fuel assets (biofuels, hydrogen, nuclear), the power grid, energy storage, and other transition technologies such as heating, cooling networks, and carbon capture and storage projects.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to underwrite construction and operational risks for REAF occupancies, with a strong focus on new business generation. The successful candidate will have a strong market presence, representing the REAF Industry Practice in broker and client meetings. They will collaborate with internal stakeholders across all lines of business, including claims, risk engineering, and global services, to provide excellent service. The role also involves working with other underwriting teams to deliver multi-line solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Underwriting - Underwrite new business and renewal accounts according to defined guidelines, working closely with risk engineers as appropriate.
2. Industry Knowledge - Stay informed about industry developments, investment projections across REAF technologies, challenges, and loss activity.
3. Financial - Own the financial plan for the London & Midlands region's REAF Industry Practice and develop local business strategies. Support the practice leader with financial planning and reforecasts.
4. Training & Mentoring - Provide training, mentorship, and serve as a role model for junior underwriters. Take underwriting referrals.
5. Compliance and Procedures - Ensure adherence to company standards, legal, and regulatory requirements.
6. Leadership - Support the establishment and promotion of best practices within the team.
7. Chubb Representation - Promote Chubb to brokers and clients and represent the practice team internally at meetings.
8. Business Development - Maintain relationships with key brokers and clients to ensure profitable growth. Develop a pipeline of opportunities and contribute to strategic growth plans.
9. Cross-sell - Maximize cross-selling opportunities across lines of business, understanding Chubb's risk appetite and gaining a high-level understanding of non-core lines.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the REAF insurance market, including competitor and broker analysis.
• Recognized expertise in the market.
• Results-driven with decision-making ability and initiative.
• Highly motivated with a solutions mindset and interest in macro and micro industry factors.
• Aiming to develop technical and business skills further.
• Ability to influence internally and externally.
• Significant experience in underwriting traditional energy/power and renewable energy/alternative fuel risks; casualty underwriting knowledge is a plus.
• Strong presentation and development skills.
