Job DescriptionJob Description

Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuel (REAF) Risk Engineer

Chubb is the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer. With operations in 54 countries, Chubb provides commercial and personal property and casualty insurance, personal accident and supplemental health insurance, reinsurance, and life insurance to a diverse group of clients. The company is distinguished by its extensive product and service offerings, broad distribution capabilities, exceptional financial strength, underwriting excellence, superior claims handling expertise, and global local operations.

Background:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly created Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuels (REAF) Industry Practice in Chubb Overseas General (COG). COG is Chubb's international business, covering all regions outside of North America. The practice aims to drive accelerated, profitable growth in energy transition technologies by developing industry expertise across lines of business. REAF IP focuses on tailored multi-line products and risk engineering services for clients involved in renewable power assets, energy storage, alternative fuels, and other transition technologies. The role reports to the Head of Specialty Engineering, COG, with a dotted line to the COG Climate+ Head of Renewable Energy & Alternative Fuels Practice.

Role Purpose:

Risk engineering is a core function of the REAF practice and Chubb's broader underwriting approach. The successful candidate will manage and be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with existing LoB engineering teams across Construction, Natural Resources, Casualty, Environmental, and Financial Lines to lead a multi-line risk engineering approach, focusing on the middle market segment. This includes reviewing and developing underwriter-engineer engagement processes and risk engineering guidance for REAF occupancies.
  • Supporting REAF IP leaders and underwriters by providing technical input into risk assessments, evaluating submission information, and conducting engineering reviews.
  • Conducting site visits and risk surveys of client projects and premises, including contributing to broker reports and risk improvement recommendations.
  • Supporting REAF underwriters in client and broker meetings.
  • Developing and managing technology databases for REAF occupancies to track technology status.
  • Establishing communication channels with Climate Tech risk engineering for information sharing on technology developments.
  • Collaborating with North American Climate engineering practice to develop projects and exchange knowledge.
  • Liaising with claims leaders and third parties to stay updated on loss experiences and trends, feeding this back into underwriting processes.
  • Developing risk fundamentals and loss scenarios for REAF occupancies, including exploring enhancements to NATCAT exposure calculations.
  • Identifying data sources for critical risk factors on REAF occupancies.
  • Creating learning and development programs for underwriters, claims, and risk engineering teams.
  • Staying informed of industry developments and producing communications for stakeholders.
  • Developing thought leadership articles and value-added risk engineering services for clients.
  • Representing Chubb at industry events and engaging with stakeholders.

  • Chartered status (C.Eng) or similar professional qualifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Energy and Power sectors and a desire for continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  • Results-driven with decision-making and workload management skills.
