Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse for Ward 3, a 28-bed renal ward with a Renal Assessment Unit. You will support the Ward Manager in day-to-day coordination, patient flow, safety and supervision of junior staff, and lead in the Senior Sister's absence.

Renal specialism and links with the dialysis unit and renal CNS teams are key; some work in the assessment unit may be expected.

Qualifications

• Registered adult nurse on the NMC register.
• Substantial post-registration experience in a complex or acute NHS setting.
• Experience of mentoring undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the day-to-day running of the ward.
• Provide visible clinical leadership and ensure high standards of patient care.
• Take charge of a defined area and coordinate holistic, patient-centred care.
• Assess nursing care and health education needs, and develop, implement and evaluate care programmes.
• Remain professionally accountable for standards under the NMC Code.
• Supervise junior and student staff.
• Support patient flow and promote quality and safety.
• Contribute to audit, quality, risk management and service improvement initiatives.
• Teach, mentor, assess and act as preceptor for students and junior staff.
• Act as deputy to the Senior Sister in their absence.
• Work as part of the renal assessment unit on Ward 3
