Job summary

Railpen is seeking a Senior Internal Audit Manager to lead assurance across complex portfolios, collaborating with Executive leadership, Trustees and Audit Committees. The role focuses on insight and credible challenge to support strategic decision-making and member outcomes.

You will own end-to-end Internal Audit delivery, manage high-profile engagements and foster strong relationships with senior stakeholders while maintaining independence and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading assurance activity within complex organisations.
• Experience presenting to Boards, Audit Committees, Trustees or equivalent senior governance forums.
• Strong professional judgement and ability to operate where outcomes/outside compliance matter.
• Insight assurance work has influenced decisions and governance.
• Risk-based, pragmatic approach to assurance.
• Ability to balance independence with constructive challenge and business partnering.
• Curiosity, critical thinking and ability to connect observations to strategic implications.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery of Internal Audit activity across assigned portfolios with risk-focused assurance.
• Lead and oversee complex, high-profile engagements with senior stakeholder management.
• Build trusted relationships with senior leaders while maintaining independence.
• Engage with Executive Committees, Audit Committees and Trustees, translating complexity into clear insights.
• Identify themes, root causes, emerging risks and opportunities for organisational learning.
• Coach and influence colleagues to develop judgement and consistency across the team.
• Evolve an assurance function focused on insight, connected assurance and value.
