Job summary

Talk Recruitment is seeking a Senior Backend Programmer/Engineer for a leading AAA video game studio. The role is remote with optional Worcestershire/West Midlands presence.

You will design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services to support real-time online games and applications, collaborating with game teams to deliver secure, scalable multiplayer experiences. Responsibilities include deploying and maintaining backend services, ensuring scalability for millions of users, and

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or comparable discipline.
• Hands-on experience in backend development, with a focus on multiplayer games.
• Strong experience with cloud services such as AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Elasticache)
• Strong understanding of containerization platforms such as Kubernetes, ACI, EKS or similar
• Database management (MySQL, NoSQL).
• Source control and code review tools (Git/Perforce/Swarm).
• Expertise with microservices and languages such as Java, Kotlin, C# or similar.

• Oversee the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of backend services.
• Work with designers to understand game requirements and deliver backend solutions.
• Ensure scalability and reliability for millions of concurrent users.
• Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Implement security and data protection methods.
• Collaborate with support teams to address issues and improve player experience.
• Keep informed on latest backend technologies and keep solutions relevant.
• Provide guidance and support for junior team members.
• Create and maintain documentation for backend infrastructures.
