Job summary

Stealth iT Consulting is seeking a Scala Developer to design and build scalable, high‑performance backend services. You will work on modern distributed systems, APIs, and contribute to reliable, enterprise‑grade software in a remote UK setting.

Key duties include developing with Scala and Play Framework, implementing REST endpoints, writing tests, and participating in Agile ceremonies. Strong FP, testing, and database experience are essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional Scala experience.
• 2+ years with Play Framework and building controllers, routing, HTTP filters.
• Strong functional programming skills (immutability, monads; Cats/Scalaz is a plus).
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs with Play JSON or Circe.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB; schema design and query optimization.
• Proven experience writing unit and integration tests (ScalaTest, Specs2, Mockito).
• Familiar with sbt and dependency management.
• Git and branching strategies.
• Understanding of HTTP, web security, and performance considerations.
• Experience working in Agile teams (Scrum/Kanban).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Scala and Play Framework.
• Implement RESTful endpoints, manage request/response lifecycle, and handle authentication/authorization flows.
• Write well-structured, idiomatic Scala and use functional programming patterns where appropriate.
• Build and maintain automated tests (unit, integration), and support test automation efforts.
• Collaborate with product owners, UX, QA, and other engineers in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban).
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions and pair programming.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues; contribute to reliability and observability (logging, metrics, alerts).
• Help define CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes (e.g., Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Concourse).
• Produce concise technical documentation and handover notes.
