Job summary

Rainbow Wood Day Nursery in Preston is seeking an Early Years Apprentice to support children under 5 within a 4-day shift pattern. The role involves learning through online delivery while gaining hands-on experience in a busy nursery environment.

You will contribute to safe, welcoming settings, follow Rainbow Wood policies, and help maintain high-quality care and observation records. Training leads to Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, with a supportive training provider.

Qualifications

• Understanding of child development.
• Understanding of the relevance of childcare legislation.
• Understanding of health and safety and welfare issues within a childcare environment.
• Good written and oral skills for report writing, maintaining child records and providing feedback to parents/carers and colleagues.
• Good numeracy/literacy skills. Effective use of IT to support learning.

Responsibilities

• To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children.
• To be aware of Rainbow Wood’s policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to.
• To be responsible for the welfare of all children in your designated room, organising systems to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
• To be vigilant and protect children from harm or abuse, reporting any concerns immediately – in accordance with safeguarding, child protection and whistle-blowing policies.
• To understand child to staff ratio’s and ensure that these are maintained at all times.
• To reflect on practices and routines, tailoring them to meet the individual needs of each child throughout the day.
• To lead observations and plan activities for the children and maintain up-to-date records of development and supports.
