Job summary

Go Fractional is seeking an experienced finance professional to cover day-to-day finance while our Head of Finance is on maternity leave. You will manage bookkeeping, payroll, supplier payments and monthly numbers for leadership, working independently with external accountants and SLT support as needed.

The role is remote, UK-based, contractor, up to 2 days per week with month-end, payroll and VAT deadlines. Start December 2026, 6 months with potential extension and a competitive day rate.

Qualifications

• Essential: Based in the UK with right to work in the UK.
• Essential: Proven experience running day-to-day finance, ideally as a senior bookkeeper, assistant accountant or finance manager.
• Essential: Strong Xero skills, including bank reconciliations, multi-currency and month-end close.
• Essential: Confident with UK tax: VAT returns and PAYE payroll.
• Essential: Advanced Excel.
• Essential: Comfortable using AI tools (Claude) in daily work to speed up tasks.
• Essential: Accurate, organised and able to work independently to deadlines, and explain numbers clearly to non-finance colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Bookkeeping and accounting: Code and post transactions in Xero, reconcile bank accounts and multi-currency platforms, manage prepayments, accruals, fixed assets and intercompany balances.
• Sales invoicing and credit control: Raise invoices, check pricing and usage data, chase overdue invoices and report on debtors.
• Supplier payments and expenses: Process supplier bills, run payment batches, approve employee expense claims and reconcile company cards (Pleo).
• Payroll: Run monthly UK payroll, manage starters/leavers, changes, pensions and benefits, submit payments on time.
• VAT and tax compliance: Prepare and submit VAT returns in Xero, handle reverse charge and overseas sales, assist external accountants for year-end and corporation tax.
• Management accounts and reporting: Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet and cash flow with variance commentary, consolidate multi-currency into group accounts and update cash flow forecasts to flag risks.
• Ad hoc and wider finance support: Respond to queries, assist with year-end accounts and tax returns with external accountants.
