Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking a Principal Drainage & SuDS Engineer in Birmingham to lead and deliver drainage and NbS projects for water companies, authorities, and developers. You will oversee concepts, detailed designs, mapping with ArcGIS/MapInfo, and CAD workflows while ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

You will also manage work packages, contribute to proposals, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams in a flexible, hybrid-working environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Geography, GIS, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Relevant industry experience in drainage, SuDS, NbS or related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning.
• Passion for sustainability and surface water management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support technical delivery of drainage and SuDS/NbS projects.
• Oversee design concepts and detailed designs using GIS, CAD and modelling tools.
• Manage projects or work packages with time, cost, and quality targets.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders and mentor junior colleagues.
