Job summary

Genomics England is recruiting a Data Engineer to design and operate scalable data pipelines for the National Genomic Research Library. You will tackle large-scale clinical and genomic data, ensure data quality and governance, and deliver secure, efficient data services for researchers and clinicians.

Join our Generate Research Data (GRD) Service to optimise ETL/ELT processes, support analytics and enable secure data delivery across initiatives in rare disease and cancer.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience designing, building and optimising data pipelines and large-scale processing systems, including ETL and ELT.
• Strong practical experience with AWS and cloud-based data engineering, including storage, compute and orchestration technologies.
• Strong coding skills using Python, with experience in testing, CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
• Experience delivering reliable data products and data models with governance.
• Understanding of data quality, lineage, metadata management and data governance.
• Experience with sensitive data in regulated environments, focusing on security, performance and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines and processing systems from data acquisition to delivery.
• Work with large volumes of clinical and genomic data, supporting data lineage and integration with reference data.
• Develop and optimise data models, storage solutions and data products for performance and security.
• Improve data quality, testing, automation and observability of pipelines and services.
• Collaborate with engineering, QA, architecture and product teams to deliver integrated data services.
• Support machine learning and data visualization by enabling trusted, well-structured data.
