Job summary

Sumitomo Electric is seeking a Dimensional Variation Engineer on a remote 6-month contract to support a new vehicle programme. You will apply 3DCS DVA methods to validate vehicle concepts and ensure robust dimensional control from concept through engineering release.

Collaborating with Perceived Quality, Design, Manufacturing and Vehicle Engineering, you will define dimensional targets, develop tolerance models and provide ER sign-off in line with BS8888/ISO 1101.

Qualifications

• Experience using 3DCS for vehicle-level DVA.
• Strong background in dimensional engineering and variation reduction.
• Solid understanding of GD&T and BS8888 standards.
• Experience delivering dimensional quality within new product development programmes.
• Cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Apply 3DCS methods to validate vehicle concepts and architectures.
• Build and maintain 3DCS tolerance simulation models.
• Analyse results and report against vehicle gap, flush, aesthetic and functional targets.
• Define and govern vehicle-level gap & flush targets with Perceived Quality.
• Provide Engineering Release sign-off across components for new model programmes.
• Develop robust dimensional control concepts and assess product/process capability.
• Attend design reviews to discuss dimensional risks and solutions.
• Raise dimensional concerns through the faults management system.
