Job summary

RS UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead one of our API teams. This remote UK role focuses on delivering features and engineering output while maintaining high standards.

You will lead an agile team of 6–10 engineers, report to the Head of API Platforms, and drive technically robust, scalable solutions. You will shape technical direction, encourage pragmatic delivery, and collaborate across domains to ensure quality and reliability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering and technology development, incl. 3+ years leading teams in agile, product-focused environment.
• Proven experience delivering cloud-native solutions, CD/CI and modern back-end architectures (event-driven).
• Hands-on with Java, Node.js, AWS services (Lambda, SNS, SQS, IAM, DynamoDB) and API tech like GraphQL.
• Experience with IaC, automation, and CI/CD (Terraform, GitLab CI).
• Knowledge of cloud tooling (HashiCorp Vault, Nomad, Kong) and observability (Datadog).
• Understanding of security, performance optimisation, caching (Redis), and test automation.
• Strong solution architecture knowledge and awareness of emerging tech trends.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management to translate complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Line management of the API engineering team; mentorship, performance management.
• Lead technical design and delivery within product domains; ensure alignment with standards.
• Collaborate with agile teams, architects, and product owners for integrated solutions.
• Coordinate observability and operational support for production infrastructure.
• Review engineering output for quality and best practices.
• Provide occasional out-of-hours production support.
• Empower the team to deliver at pace and own features.
