Job summary

RS UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the API team. You will drive technical vision, deliver features at pace, and foster a pragmatic delivery culture. The role includes line management for 6-10 engineers and reporting to the Head of API Platforms.

Responsibilities include technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring high-quality engineering standards in a product-domain environment. Remote within the UK.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering and technology development.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams in agile, product-focused environments.
• Experience delivering cloud-native solutions, CD/CI, and modern back-end architectures.

Responsibilities

• Line Management: direct line management of the API engineering team with mentorship and performance management.
• Technical Leadership: lead design and delivery within product domains, align with architectures and business goals.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration with agile teams, domains, architects, and product owners.
• Operational Excellence: coordinate observability and production infrastructure reliability.
• Quality Assurance: review engineering output for quality and best practices.
• Production Support: provide occasional out-of-hours support for team systems.
• Team Empowerment: enable the team to deliver speed and ownership.
