Job description

Job Title: Religious Visitor (Hindu) - Part Time

We are seeking a Religious Visitor (Hindu) to join our Chaplaincy Team at Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre. This is a part-time position working across both Brook House and Tinsley House IRCs, with a 5-hour shift per week. The role involves working independently and as part of a team to provide spiritual and pastoral support to residents and staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing pastoral care and ensuring the spiritual welfare of residents and staff.
  2. Supporting faith groups in observing religious holy days and festivals.
  3. Distributing religious literature and supplies.
  4. Facilitating faith-specific services.
  5. Participating in chaplaincy meetings and forums.
  6. Collaborating with Security and Safer Custody teams on issues like Suicide, Self-Harm, and Violence Reduction.
  7. Maintaining chaplaincy facilities and equipment.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience in delivering religious services of Hindu faith, preferably in a custodial environment.
  • Innovative and forward-thinking approach.
  • High level of professionalism and competence in religious service delivery.
  • Proven pastoral and spiritual leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of other faiths within the centre to operate in a multi-faith environment.
  • Minimum faith eligibility as per Hindu tradition.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in Hindu religious services.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Meet the specified minimum faith eligibility requirement.
