Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is seeking Relief Catering Assistants to support the preparation and serving of meals across multiple locations in Chesterfield, Dronfield, Clowne, Staveley and Shirebrook. You will help with food preparation, meal service, dining area setup, and maintaining hygiene standards.

The role requires teamwork, reliability, and a focus on providing nutritious meals to children. A DBS check is required due to access to children.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting food preparation in a school or community setting.
• Ability to assist with basic cooking tasks and food handling.
• Experience serving meals to children with attention to portion control and presentation.
• Ability to maintain kitchen and dining area cleanliness to high hygiene standards.
• Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety regulations in a kitchen environment.
• Strong teamwork and communication within a school catering team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation and simple cooking tasks as directed.
• Serve meals to children with correct portions and appealing presentation.
• Set up and dismantle dining furniture and prepare dining areas for service.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas and equipment.
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures to prevent contamination.
• Collaborate with team to support smooth kitchen and service operations.
