Job summary

MHA is seeking a Cook (Relief/Bank) for Greenways care home in West Sussex. You will prepare nutritious meals for members, plan menus, and supervise volunteers to ensure a welcoming kitchen environment aligned with MHA values.

Experience with large-scale meal production, budgeting, and food safety is essential. Strong communication and a flexible attitude, with occasional travel, are expected.

Qualifications

• Experience of preparing and cooking meals for large numbers of people.
• Ability to deliver high-quality meals within a set budget.
• Good communication and listening skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Experience of working with or supervising volunteers (desirable).
• Creativity in menu planning and sensitivity to older people’s needs.
• A flexible and positive approach to work with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve meals for members attending clubs.
• Plan nutritious menus meeting dietary and cultural needs.
• Manage food ordering and stock control to minimise waste.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
• Supervise and support volunteers and staff in the kitchen.
• Assist with induction and training of volunteers and staff.
• Maintain records and complete audits per food safety policies.
• Attend training, meetings and appraisals as required.
