Job summary

The Walter & Joan Gray, operated by CrossReach Trading Ltd., is seeking a Relief Cook to help provide nutritious meals for residents in Scalloway, Shetland. Working on an as-needed basis, you will follow menus, prepare meals, and maintain high kitchen hygiene to support wellbeing and enjoyment of mealtimes.

You will bring professional kitchen experience, a Food Hygiene qualification, and be prepared to work within our Christian ethos; PVG and SSSC checks are required, and entitlement to work

• A relevant catering qualification would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for residents
• Follow menus and cater for dietary, nutritional and cultural requirements

• Monitor food stocks and support stock rotation
• Ensure meals are prepared and presented to a high standard
• Support special events and celebrations through food preparation
• Work closely with colleagues to ensure residents' needs are met

Situated on the waterfront in Scalloway, Shetland, The Walter & Joan Gray provides residential and respite care for up to 16 older people. The home offers a comfortable, welcoming environment with strong connections to the surrounding community. Care and support are tailored to each resident's individual needs and preferences, helping people maintain their independence, enjoy meaningful social connections and feel valued and supported throughout their stay.

As a Relief Cook, you'll prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals that help residents stay healthy, feel valued and enjoy mealtimes that are often the highlight of their day. Working on an as-needed basis, you'll provide cover when required while helping maintain the high standards residents expect.

What you will do

About you

You will have experience working in a professional kitchen and be confident preparing meals for groups of people. You'll be organised, adaptable and able to work effectively in different situations while maintaining high standards. A Food Hygiene qualification is essential and a relevant catering qualification would be advantageous.
