Job Description: Relief Cook at Pennock Hospital

Location: Pennock Hospital, 1009 W Green St., Hastings, Michigan

Schedule: Part-time, PRN, 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Sunday. Variable weekends required.

Pay: Starting at $16.40 per hour

Job Summary

We are seeking team members passionate about creating excellent food options for our patients, guests, and staff. Our Cooks play a vital role in preparing and executing hot and cold meals served across our facilities, including restaurants, room service, and grab & go markets. Responsibilities include line cooking, prep cooking, vegetable prep, short order cooking, catering, and mise en place.

Essential Functions

1. Perform hot food preparation such as frying, baking, broiling, braising, and grilling. Prepare soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other items as needed. Adjust food quantities based on customer volume.
2. Assemble and prepare ingredients through cleaning and cutting.
3. Follow standardized recipes, calculating ingredients by weight and volume.
4. Monitor food quality, presentation, taste, texture, and temperature.
5. Record temperatures accurately and replace food items that do not meet standards.
6. Store food items properly, labeling and dating them according to standards. Use leftovers within designated timeframes.
7. Set up steam tables for patient and cafeteria tray lines.
8. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth service.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least 2 years of relevant food service experience
• CRT-ServSafe Allergen - NRA (within 90 days)
• CRT-ServSafe Handler or Manager - NRA (within 90 days)

Preferred

• Vocational/Technical courses in food preparation
• Courses in baking and cake decorating techniques (16 weeks to 1 year)
