Job description

Overview

To be a key team member of the actuarial team providing expert analytical support to brokers and clients working across a wide range of multinational and Lloyd’s carriers. The successful candidate should be comfortable working across various tasks including pricing, model building, profitability studies, dealing with large data sets, and making reasonable progress through the actuarial exams. The candidate is expected to lead client engagements and support work on larger accounts. This role is aimed at recently qualified actuaries eager to learn a fast-growing line of business.

How you'll make an impact

The Gallagher Re Analytics team offers a range of services including:

  1. Exposure and experience-based pricing; proportional and non-proportional reinsurance
  2. Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) modelling; stochastic modelling to investigate the impact of reinsurance structures on P&L, Balance Sheet, and Capital Requirements
  3. Optimisation; capital efficiency and return from reinsurance structures for both prospective and retrospective liabilities
  4. Benchmarking; compilation, analysis, and presentation of product and sector benchmarking

The candidate is expected to:

  1. Lead client engagement and analytics projects for small and mid-size accounts
  2. Build effective working relationships within the team, other departments, and clients
  3. Act as a point of contact within the department for process ownership
  4. Develop forward-thinking research into emerging risks
  5. Ensure effective communication, both verbal and written, and contribute to meetings
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the Actuarial department and the wider business
  7. Proactively seek opportunities to develop technical skills
  8. Manage workload effectively, prioritize tasks, and provide regular updates
  9. Develop and automate modelling processes
  10. Contribute to RFPs for reinsurance strategies
  11. Lead strategic reviews of underwriting and reinsurance strategies for London Market clients
  12. Contribute to benchmarking development, including pricing, structural, and performance analysis by line of business

About You

Strong analytical skills, ability to apply advanced mathematical and actuarial concepts, functional programming skills (R or Python), excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work across teams. Experience within an actuarial team in a commercial insurance context is preferable but not essential.

Education/Qualification

University degree in a numerate discipline (2:1 or above), such as Financial Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Quantitative Risk Management. Progress towards or willingness to start IFoA qualification. Proficiency in MS Excel, R, and/or Python.
