Overview

To be a key team member of the actuarial team providing expert analytical support to brokers and clients working across a wide range of multinational and Lloyd’s carriers. The successful candidate should be comfortable working across a number of different tasks such as pricing, model building, profitability studies, dealing with large data sets, and making reasonable progress through the actuarial exams. Candidate expected to lead client engagements and support work on larger accounts.

The role is aimed at recently qualified actuaries with a keenness to learn a fast-growing line of business.

How you'll make an impact

The Gallagher Re Analytics team currently offers a range of services including, but not limited to:

  • Exposure and experience-based pricing; proportional and non-proportional reinsurance
  • Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) modelling; stochastic modelling to investigate impact of reinsurance structures, P&L, Balance Sheet, and Capital Requirements.
  • Optimisation; capital efficiency and return from using reinsurance structures for both prospective and retrospective liabilities.
  • Benchmarking; compilation, analysis, and presentation of product and sector benchmarking.

The candidate is expected to:

  • Lead client engagement and analytics projects for small and mid-size accounts.
  • Build effective working relationships within the team, other internal departments, and clients.
  • Act as a point of contact within the department for ownership of processes.
  • Develop forward-thinking research into emerging risks.
  • Ensure effective and structured verbal and written communication, with the ability to present information clearly and contribute to meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Actuarial department and the wider business.
  • Be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop own experience and technical skills.
  • Manage own workload effectively, demonstrating prioritisation and providing regular progress updates.
  • Develop and automate new and existing modelling processes.
  • Contribute to RFPs for reinsurance strategies placements.
  • Lead strategic reviews of inbound underwriting and outbound reinsurance strategies for London Market clients.
  • Engage in thought leadership by developing benchmarking analyses for pricing, structure, and performance by line of business.
About You

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply advanced mathematical and actuarial concepts in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in R or Python programming.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A proactive, 'can do' attitude and ability to work across teams.
  • Personable, enthusiastic, with the ability to explain complex situations clearly.
  • Effective at managing competing priorities and forward planning.
  • Experience within an actuarial team in a commercial insurance or Lloyd’s managing agent is preferable but not essential.
Education/Qualification

  • University degree in a numerate/quantitative discipline at 2:1 or above (e.g., Financial Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Quantitative Risk Management, MORSE).
  • Progressing towards or intending to start IFoA qualification, with willingness to complete it.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially in MS Excel, with proficiency in R and/or Python.
