Job summary

Cats Protection operates centres across Scotland, including Auchinloch and Haggs Gate. The role is based at the Glasgow centres with a 35-hour week and occasional weekend hours. You will clean, feed and care for cats, assist with rehoming information, and drive occasionally for veterinary runs or transport.

We seek a reliable team player with a full driving licence, excellent customer service skills, and a strong understanding of welfare needs. Health benefits and generous leave are offered.

Qualifications

  • Full, manual driving licence is essential.
  • Excellent communicator with strong empathy.
  • Experience in customer service and dealing with the public.
  • Experience in animal welfare and meeting welfare needs of cats.
  • Resilient and able to cope with distressing situations.
  • Positive attitude and good at working as part of a team.
  • Understanding of health and safety and manual handling tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Clean cat pens and litter trays across centre sections.
  • Feed and care for cats including medical/behavioural needs as required.
  • Present a professional, friendly image to customers and visitors.
  • Assist with veterinary runs; may drive Cats Protection vehicle off-site.
  • Work with volunteers to coach and guide on cat care duties.
  • Support scheduling and preparation of rehoming information, viewings and adoptions.

Work pattern

Work pattern: 35 hours per week, 2.5 weekends per month

Salary

Salary: Up to £23,943 per year

Contract

Contract: Fixed term contract until 30th April 2027

Responsibilities
  • Carry out cleaning of cat pens, including litter trays, in the various sections of the centre
  • Feed and care for cats requiring additional medical or behavioural treatment as required. This also includes handling
  • Present a professional and friendly image to customers and visitors
  • As required, assist with veterinary runs, this may include driving the Cats Protection vehicle off-site
  • Work with volunteers to coach and guide them on cat care duties
  • Support with the scheduling and preparation of rehoming information, viewings and adoption of cats in care
About the centre team
  • Our adoption and homing centres care for thousands of cats each year until they are able to find a loving new home.
  • Our team is made up of Centre Manager, Deputy Centre Manager, Senior Rehoming and Welfare Assistants, Rehoming and welfare assistants and a Receptionist
What we're looking for
  • A full, manual driving license is essential as some driving of centre vans is required
  • An excellent communicator with strong empathy
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience of dealing with members of the public
  • Experience of animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling and a high level of understanding of how to meet welfare needs of cats
  • Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
  • A positive attitude and good at working as part of a team
  • An understanding of health and safety and comfortable with manual handling tasks
