Rehabilitation Engineer

Salary GBP48,116 - GBP55,061 FTE depending on skills and experience + BENEFITS

Location: Ashford/Gillingham - Free on-site parking

Hours: Full-time (part-time considered)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Wheelchair Service Rehabilitation Engineer to join our Kent Wheelchair Service team.

The Wheelchair Service supports people in the Kent and Medway area who require mobility equipment to achieve and maintain their lifestyle choices. This rewarding role provides a unique opportunity to work with service users of all ages and would suit someone with experience in posture and mobility services, with some knowledge of manual and powered wheelchairs. Candidates with other relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.

We are a leading provider of Healthcare Services. Our clinical teams work closely with NHS and Social Care Organisations, providing a service that emphasizes quality and prioritizes the service user experience.

The role:

  1. Use your clinical and technical skills to assess the mobility needs of adults and children with complex needs, and prescribe manual and powered wheelchairs with associated posture and pressure management accessories.
  2. Handle all technical aspects of assessment, prescription, and handover of mobility equipment, including:
  • High-performance, adjustable self-propelling manual wheelchairs
  • Minor modifications to wheelchairs, seating, and accessories
  • Production of engineering drawings for adaptations and instructions for their use
  • Assembly and programming of complex powered wheelchair controls
  • Ensure compliance with applicable medical device regulations
  • Supervise junior staff and provide clinical and technical guidance to colleagues.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to deliver high-quality, personalized services with measurable outcomes.
  • Review and evaluate new and existing equipment, leading improvements.
  • Liaise with service user groups and stakeholders to facilitate joint working and improve outcomes.
  • Support internal and external training programs, including apprenticeships and student placements, and help develop training resources.
  • Conduct and document risk assessments related to equipment, safeguarding, moving and handling, infection control, etc.
  • About you:

    • Motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload.
    • Proven problem-solving skills using engineering and practical expertise for service users' mobility needs.
    • Proficient with hand tools, including power tools, and capable of operating workshop equipment.
    • Experience working with patients with long-term or deteriorating medical conditions is advantageous.
    • Comfortable using digital systems and software for record-keeping and performance analysis.
    • Registered as a Clinical Technologist or with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist.
    • Hold a full UK driving license for manual vehicles and willing to drive vans as required.

    Due to the role, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.
