Job description

Job Opportunity: Regulatory Services Officer

The opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Trading Standards professional to provide specialist services, investigate consumer protection offences, support and advise colleagues, partners, and senior managers within Trading Standards and businesses. You will be delivering a wide range of statutory and regulatory functions, including Fair Trading, Primary Authority, Weights and Measures, and Product Safety.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated officer with the ability to achieve targets and work in a team, who will play an integral role in the delivery of the Council’s response to issues. You will be expected to adopt a flexible and problem-solving approach to work to deliver quick and sustainable resolutions to Trading Standards and Licensing issues across the city and support local communities. The successful candidate will manage their own caseload and provide guidance and advice to colleagues and partners on wider initiatives.

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge to handle highly complex and high-risk issues across Trading Standards functions, possess an investigatory mindset with the ability to think outside the box, have significant relevant experience in case management processes, and a commitment to working in partnerships, including taking the lead in a multi-agency environment.

The successful candidate must be qualified to enforce Weights and Measures legislation. It is desirable that the candidate is also qualified to enforce Food Standards legislation.
