Job description

Hello, we're Starling. We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way. We're a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We're a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,500 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

The role sits within the Regulatory Reporting team within Finance at Starling Bank. The team is London based and comprises 9 individuals covering reporting, regulatory change and regulatory assurance. As a small team the activities are shared across the team and the ability to work on different reports over time and develop processes and work on various internal and external changes is key to the role. The team have embarked on a project to enable reporting on a Basel 3.1 basis and automate many of its existing processes, through implementation of a new regulatory reporting system. The Testing Lead has responsibility for planning and executing testing in support of this project and other initiatives in the future. Starling prefers small incremental changes, and our project usually has multiple production releases each week. Testing must be designed to fit this delivery model.

Role Expectations:

  • Develop a plan of testing activities within the wider project plan
  • Design a risk-based test approach, balancing effort against risk
  • Execute tests in a controlled and structured manner
  • Coordinate other team members to design, execute and review tests
  • Produce test completion reports, keeping them short and to the point
  • Work with Data and IT teams to implement robust automated tests within their development and deployment process (e.g. TeamCity; dbt assertions...)
  • Develop tools to facilitate rapid execution of frequently repeated tests
  • Work with Data and IT teams to ensure non-functional requirements are tested (e.g. scheduling, performance, controls)
  • Deliver training and support to other team members on testing best practice
  • Engage with stakeholders to communicate progress and obtain sign-offs

Requirements
  • Experience of regulatory reporting (credit risk or liquidity) change projects as a testing or business analyst.
  • Strong technical skills including Excel and SQL. Python would be a plus.
  • Strong communication - written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytics capability; data literate; logical thinker.
  • Understanding of financial control environments and control design.
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting systems would be an advantage.

Benefits
  • 25 days holiday (plus take your public holiday allowance whenever works best for you)
  • An extra day's holiday for your birthday
  • Annual leave is increased with length of service, and you can choose to buy or sell up to five extra days off
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work and Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships
