Job Title: Senior Policy Officer

Location: High Holborn, London

Salary: £55,000 to £60,000 - Band 4

Working Pattern: Hybrid working policy - Minimum 4 days per month in the office, plus events and collaboration

The Role

This senior role in the BSB’s Strategy, Policy and Insights team reports to the Head of Policy. The post holder will lead the development, design, and delivery of key policies aligned with the BSB’s Strategic Plan, aiming to enhance the legal services market in England and Wales in the public interest.

Responsibilities include setting and maintaining high professional standards for Barristers via the BSB Handbook, supporting the authorisations team, and staying informed about emerging opportunities and challenges in the legal sector.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leading a review of the BSB’s Entities Statement and supporting regulatory arrangements
  2. Developing responses to policy inquiries related to the BSB Handbook
  3. Supporting other policy initiatives as needed
  4. Line managing a Senior Policy Officer
  5. Providing support to the Head of Policy and the Director of Strategy, Policy and Insight

Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of professional regulation, preferably in legal services
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and within matrix arrangements
