Morgan Stanley is seeking a Director to join the Accounting and Regulatory Policy team in the UK to lead development of global capital and liquidity regulatory policies and oversee governance processes.

The role partners with Finance and firm colleagues, manages major deliverables, identifies regulatory risks, mentors talent and advances digital tooling for policy workflows. You will also support Basel-based regulation and advisory queries.

Job description

We're seeking someone to join our Accounting and Regulatory Policy team to support the management and development of global capital and liquidity regulatory policies, manage the process to identify new regulations and provide support on related governance requirements.

In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis and advisory services of the Firm's financial and capital resources. This is a Director-level position within our Accounting and Regulatory Policy team, which is responsible for the Firm's accounting policies under US GAAP and IFRS and Basel-based regulatory capital and liquidity policy.

What you’ll do in the role:
  • Collaborate with a varied group of colleagues in Finance and across the Firm
  • Responsible for and lead a significant set of deliverables, leveraging advanced understanding of Finance functional area, product and/or client segment
  • Proactively identify emerging risks in individual and department work and contribute to strategies for mitigating them
  • Act as a role model and culture carrier; embody and set an example of the Firm's values and hold yourself and others accountable to Firm standards
  • Manage the process to develop Morgan Stanley's capital and liquidity regulatory policies and lead prudential regulatory horizon-scanning processes to identify new requirements. This will include the technical review of new publications and communication to senior stakeholders
  • Support regulatory interpretation governance forums and committees, liaising with committee members and subject matter experts to produce high-quality materials and minutes
  • Advance innovation and digital tooling for regulatory policy processes, including liaison with internal management and third-party providers
  • Develop technical knowledge of Basel-based regulation and support the resolution of advisory queries from internal stakeholders
  • Manage, attract, develop and retain talent for the team within Finance while creating an inclusive environment; translate Firmwide goals into actionable goals for department/function
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Advanced understanding of Finance functional area, product and/or client segment and technical skills, as well as of industry and competitive environment
  • Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback and acknowledge efforts of team members
  • Ability to articulate risk and impact to various audiences, and create plans to mitigate those risks
  • Experience in regulatory policy, prudential regulation, regulatory reporting, risk, compliance or a related financial services discipline
  • Understanding of Basel-based regulation, including capital or liquidity reporting rules, or a strong track record of developing technical subject matter expertise
  • Ability to communicate complex technical material clearly to stakeholders with varying levels of experience and knowledge, both in written and verbal form
  • Experience influencing outcomes across cross-functional teams, facilitating discussions and building consensus with senior stakeholders
  • At least six years' relevant experience would generally be expected to develop the skills required for this role
