Job description

Regulatory Officer 1 - Packaging Waste - Field Based - 31024

Join us as a Regulatory Officer and help create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment. Your role will involve enforcing government waste disposal regulations to ensure companies dispose of waste correctly, supporting the circular economy. This position is based in the Packaging Midlands field team within the Producer Responsibility team, part of Environmental Markets and Regulation (EM&R).

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Undertaking audit and enforcement work both in the field and desk-based.
  2. Analyzing complex data to make evidence-based compliance decisions.
  3. Responding to technical queries, diagnosing issues, and developing solutions.
  4. Building relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  5. Handling confidential information in line with data protection guidelines.
  6. Contributing to process and operational improvements.
  7. Investigating suspected non-compliance, including conducting interviews and preparing case files.

Responding to incidents is central to the role, with training and support provided. The team, based in Lincoln, monitors compliance at regulated sites, ensuring proper handling of packaging waste for recycling and recovery, and enforces regulations through legal actions when necessary.

Ideal candidates should be organized, confident, IT literate, comfortable with data, and passionate about the environment. No waste industry experience is necessary as full training is provided. A full UK driving license is required due to travel responsibilities.

We offer a competitive benefits package, including pension scheme, flexible working hours, annual leave, and opportunities for qualifications and career development. Interviews are scheduled between 16th and 27th June 2025, with a hybrid working approach and travel within the Midlands expected.
