West Midlands Police seeks a Regulatory Lawyer to provide legal advice and representation, particularly related to disciplinary proceedings and misconduct hearings. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders and handle a demanding caseload, ensuring accountability and legal compliance. Collaboration with external legal services and navigating complex legal issues will be key responsibilities. Candidates must hold or soon acquire the relevant legal qualifications and possess experience in police-related legal matters.
The Regulatory Lawyer will provide legal advice and representation under the general direction of the Director of Joint Legal Services (JLS). As a Solicitor, you will work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to serve the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire and West Midlands Police.
Your main responsibilities include advising on disciplinary proceedings, preparing cases for misconduct hearings, advocacy at hearings, drafting charges, and advising on strategy, risks, and disclosure for the professional standards department. You will also handle inquest files, engaging with the Coroner, Coroner's officers, Counsel, and attending pre-inquest reviews and inquests.
Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday 6th August and possibly Thursday 7th August.
Applicants must pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance, including a background and financial check.
Medical checks, including drugs and fitness tests, may be required prior to appointment.
