We have a fantastic opportunity at Thames Water to join a team responding to the Environment Agency (EA) across various communication mediums. This high-profile role involves collaboration with our legal team at Eversheds Sutherland and the EA, offering exposure across the business and contributions to our environmental initiatives.

What you’ll be doing as a Regulatory Information Specialist

This role involves critically reviewing draft correspondence to the EA related to criminal investigations into pollution and non-compliance incidents. You will support and coach Advisors, leading and acting as a delegate for the Team Manager.

  • Work with the Team Manager to identify and implement continuous improvements.
  • Assist in managing and responding to regulators with factually accurate and comprehensive responses.
  • Ensure understanding of environmental risks, mitigation actions, and interpretation of scientific data.
  • Support Advisors in chairing meetings, finalizing responses, and preparing data.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders.

Base location: Hybrid, averaging two days a week at Clearwater Court, Reading.

Working pattern: Flexible options available, discussed at interview.

Other requirements: Ability to travel across Thames Water sites for training and team activities.

What you should bring to the role

  • An Environmental Science, Legal, Investigative degree, or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, EA classification schemes, and compliance requirements.
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in reporting, data interpretation, and verbal/written communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Experience in coaching, motivating, and leading colleagues, especially in managerial delegation.
  • Experience with environmental legislation and regulation in water industry preferred; legal privilege and assurance experience are advantageous.
