Job summary

Bank of England's Data and General Insurance Risk Specialists (DGIRD) offers a General Insurance Actuary role in Leeds or London. You will work with supervisors and policy colleagues to provide technical expertise, judgement and leadership on supervisory decisions and thematic analyses.

The role blends firm-facing supervision with project work and requires the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly while coaching colleagues and contributing to cross‑functional initiatives.

Qualifications

• Technical actuarial knowledge and experience broadly equivalent to a qualified actuary.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Commercial awareness of general insurance market dynamics.
• Ability to analyse complex information and communicate evidence-based recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with DGIRD and supervision to understand firms' business models and key risks.
• Provide actuarial input into technical risks facing general insurance firms.
• Assess emerging risks and recommend supervisory responses.
• Build relationships with stakeholders within firms, including chief actuaries and CROs.
• Support development of technical standards, thematic reviews and research initiatives.
