Base Location: Aberdeen, Perth, Inverness or Glasgow. Hybrid working with a split between home and office is available for this role to support your work/life balance.

Salary: £59,800 - £89,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

Our Regulation, Strategy and Planning Directorate plays a central role in shaping and delivering the transmission infrastructure required across the North of Scotland. As part of this strategic team, you will provide expert advice to the SSEN Transmission Board and Executive Committee on a range of internal and external factors impacting regulatory strategy, programme delivery, and overall business performance.

You will lead cross-functional teams and foster strong collaboration to help shape the external regulatory policy environment, and to develop regulatory strategies to secure future business growth opportunities. This role will support critical outcomes including the UK Government's Mission Control ambition to deliver clean power by 2030.

This role includes responsibility for leading and managing areas of regulatory policy, including for future price controls, and safeguarding the value of our future investment pipeline by shaping policy outcomes to align with our long‑term strategy. You will be at the forefront of shaping, negotiating, and delivering the regulatory landscape and securing approvals within it through close engagement with Ofgem and other key stakeholders.

You Will
  • Shape Regulatory Strategy: Shape and develop robust positions to support SSEN Transmission's future regulatory strategy and advocacy to ensure long‑term regulatory and commercial success that delivers value for our customers and society. Key areas include price controls, funding mechanisms, incentives, competition and connections reform.
  • Secure Future Investment: Support future investment programmes by obtaining regulatory approval of capex opportunities through high‑quality engagement and evidence‑based submissions to Ofgem to achieve our strategic goals.
  • Build Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, especially Ofgem, by engaging regularly, responding to industry consultations, and representing SSEN Transmission at industry forums.
  • Coach and Develop: Provide coaching and guidance to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members and others within SSEN Transmission.
  • Manage a Team: Manage a small team of industry experts, focusing on their continuous development and growing team capability.

You'll join a supportive and collaborative Regulation team, working alongside experienced colleagues across SSEN Transmission and the wider SSE Group who are committed to helping you develop and succeed in the role.

You have
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of the GB energy regulatory framework, the energy sector, key stakeholders, and the policy landscape, including political and policy impacts on regulated companies (in particular, an understanding of how regulatory frameworks shape project design, development, and execution). Experience in a price control environment would be beneficial, although not essential.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills: Ability to use logical and analytical reasoning to identify problems, determine causes, propose and implement solutions within the context of the SSEN Transmissions strategic ambitions and the external environment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and writing skills to articulate complex issues clearly and accurately, including to external and senior audiences. Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cross‑Disciplinary Engagement: Ability to work outside your area of expertise, engaging with experts to gather and present information for investment cases, policy development, and strategy.
  • Leadership Experience: Ability to shape regulatory positioning, not just deliver process. Focus on achieving high standards for evidence, narrative and consistency, delivering high‑quality outputs to tight regulatory timelines. Ability to build trust with both internal teams and external regulators.
