This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position
Pharmaceutical Industrial Placement in Biosample and Bioanalytics

We are offering an outstanding non-laboratory, office based opportunity to two Industrial Placement students with a keen interest in understanding clinical trial development, working with multidisciplinary teams of operational, bioanalytical and biomarker scientists and technical experts dedicated to supporting the execution of Clinical BioX (biosample, biomarker and bioanalytics) strategies to translate patient biosamples into medicines across our worldwide early phase clinical studies.

These positions are located in Regulated Bioanalysis and Biosample Operations, a department within the pRED (Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development) organization of Roche, which translates world-class science into medical innovation through a diversity of technologies and talent located across research & development sites worldwide. We deliver on individual patient needs through a deep understanding of disease biology and the implementation of Personalized Healthcare strategies.

During the placement you will be based in the offices of Roche UK at the Welwyn Garden City site. This is not a laboratory based placement and candidates will be required to be based in the office.

Each successful candidate will receive full training in relevant business processes, systems, software and programming for each role, and will be supported by experienced employees that will provide coaching, mentoring and oversight on a day‑to‑day basis.

Your Impact

As an industrial placement student, you will primarily focus on contributing to the operational execution of clinical biosample strategies, developing into an autonomous, digitally‑proficient professional.

  • Operational Leadership: Take autonomy and ownership in managing your time and activities to support the day‑to‑day biosample operational activities undertaken by Biosample Project Leaders (BPLs). This is your core area of impact, which includes:
    • Participating in the review of clinical trial project and study biosample specific metrics and assisting with study‑specific financial management.
    • Contributing to the maintenance and application of internal platforms for biosample management.
    • Supporting the full biosample lifecycle: strategy, collection, analysis, data reporting, and storage.
    • Developing, maintaining, and overseeing essential biosample documentation.
  • Bioanalytical Learning & Application: You will be supported by BioAnalytical Managers (BAMs) to learn the field and application of regulated bioanalysis. This may involve supporting specific bioanalytical activities on either early and late‑stage clinical development.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Demonstrate strong collaboration and team‑work by participating in stakeholder and vendor meetings, supporting central laboratory meetings, and collaborating with BPLs and BAMs on innovative initiatives. This role requires constant focus on stakeholder and relationship management, ensuring everyone has the required information at all times.
  • Digital & Professional Excellence: Apply proficient attention to detail when reviewing and creating documentation and digital plans. You will enhance your communication skills—including leveraging AI—and develop proficiency with digital tools and coding by overseeing and applying internal technologies and platforms.
  • Professional Development: Cultivate a growth and creative mindset while actively acquiring knowledge of scientific and operational methods and applications. You will also learn practical project management techniques and have the option to contribute to internal office‑based initiatives.
