Join the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Registration Standards Specialist in London, responsible for managing specialist qualifications, ensuring quality control, and engaging with stakeholders. Salary - Salary Plan, 42,500.00 GBP AnnualWe are currently looking for a Registration Standards Specialist to join our Accreditation and Careers team. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the advancement of professional practice in relation to the specialist registers, maintaining standards and linking the specialist registers to members' continuing professional development.
Responsibilities:
Managing applications for specialist qualifications and registrations with responsibility for quality control and ensuring applicants receive an excellent experience.
Representing Royal Society of Chemistry on collaborative projects, examination panels and working with external partners to develop the specialist registers and ensure standards are maintained
Managing the professional body aspect of the specialist registers.
Engaging and persuading senior stakeholders in order to guide policy and the strategic development of the professional registers.
Project managing the specialist registers with a view to developing new opportunities within the community.
This work will involve an in-depth and specialist knowledge of the specialist registers, specifically, Qualified Persons for the Pharmaceutical Industry (QP), Mastership of Chemical Analysis (MChemA), Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach), Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
Accountabilities:
Fully manage the application and revalidation processes for the professional registers and specialist qualifications, including supporting applicants, liaising with assessors, and processing documentation.
Manage the relationship with assessors of the professional registers and specialist qualifications, including delivering training, regular liaison and ensuring there is capacity for all applications to be assessed in a timely fashion.
Advise both prospective and current applicants regarding the professional registers and specialist qualifications, related competencies, continuing professional development and application processes.
Develop and manage distinct projects to increase the number of individuals applying for professional registrations.
Work with relevant committees and boards to develop and maintain robust and appropriate assessment systems for professional registers and specialist qualifications.
Assure the quality and accessibility of our application and assessment processes.
Oversee, project manage and strategically develop the portfolio of professional registers and specialist qualifications (MChemA, QP, CSciTeach, CSci and CEnv).
Work closely with internal teams, including membership, marketing, and communications to promote the professional registers and specialist qualifications to a wider audience.
Collaborate and be seen as an expert in the field with other professional bodies and external partners (for example the Royal Society of Biology, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the Society for the Environment, the Science Council).
Provide specialist intelligence service to the organisation and liaise with government and relevant agencies, for example the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), and Food Standards Agency (FSA).
Develop specialist knowledge to advise on national and EU legislation. Maintain expertise as legislation is updated and modified. Provide advice to members on this legislation and be an expert in the field.
Support responses to relevant consultations and policy development in order to safeguard appropriately qualified members' rights to practise and to provide expert advice on such matters.
Work to safeguard the professional registers and specialist qualifications within legislation, and respond to statements produced by government and other legislative bodies.
Influence, guide, and be guided by RSC governance to ensure appropriate qualifying standards are sustained.
Work collaboratively and proactively while maintaining good team working relationships with colleagues in the accreditation and careers team and the wider RSC; ensure a coherent approach is maintained between the teams.
Carry out any other duties as requested by the Vocational Skills Programme Manager.
Main requirements:
a degree in the chemical sciences or equivalent.
Be (or eligible to be) a Member (MRSC) and Chartered Chemist (CChem).
Have consolidated their knowledge of science and developed professional key skills through postgraduate employment.
Demonstrate project management experience.
Be able to demonstrate an understanding of continuing professional development.
Possess excellent communication skills.
You will also be expected to:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of qualifying standards in the chemical sciences.
Demonstrate an awareness of the range of organisations that employ chemical scientists.
Be able to apply their knowledge critically and demonstrate an ability to evaluate data relating to education and training in an accurate and equitable manner.
Interact and network competently with colleagues, members, employers of chemists and peers at other professional bodies.
Manage strategic projects that enhance qualifying standards (and any associated budget).
Manage and drive forward opportunities for improvement to established processes and procedures.
Guide external bodies (e.g. licensing bodies, companies) on how their education and training provision can map across to Royal Society of Chemistry qualifying standards.
Develop strong relationships with external organisations and bodies involved with the professional registers and specialist qualifications.
Recognise opportunities to link chartered status to professional registers.

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate.
Although you will be contractually based at our Cambridge office or London office, however we are currently embracing hybrid working, and therefore you will have the opportunity to also work mostly from a UK location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Cambridge or London office around once a week and at east once a month our Cambridge office. Please be aware that occasional national travel (around 2-3 times a year) will be required.
