We wish to appoint a registrar in Vascular Surgery (ST3+ or equivalent) starting October 2025.
This post is suitable for surgeons in training seeking additional Vascular Surgery experience before obtaining a National Training Number, surgeons taking time out for research while continuing clinical work (participation in on-call rota and daytime duties to be agreed), or surgeons near the end of training (UK or overseas) or post-training wanting exposure to advanced endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR/FEVAR/BEVAR). We will select candidates whose training needs we can best support.
The post is based in the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital. The post holder will participate in a separate middle grade vascular on-call rota. Outpatient clinics will be delivered at one or more of the non-arterial network hospitals (Bristol Royal Infirmary, Weston General Hospital, Royal United Hospital Bath).
The post-holder will supervise and support junior surgical trainees within their competence. While this post does not have postgraduate training approval, progression will be assessed through meetings with the educational supervisor, regular PBA (procedure-based assessment), educational meetings, and reflective learning. A formal learning agreement will be established at the start.
Participation in clinical research, audit, and quality improvement activities is required, with at least one project to be completed during the fellowship year.
The Bristol Bath Weston Vascular Network covers a population of 1.12 million, providing comprehensive arterial and endovascular services, including 24/7 vascular surgery and interventional radiology, with dedicated facilities at Southmead Hospital.
Full GMC registration is essential for appointment; applicants must be qualified to fully register. The Trust is affiliated with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. UK hospital system experience and English language proficiency (including GMC certification) are required.
