Find a world of opportunity at SCVS

This role offers an exciting opportunity to diversify your skillset by working with complex neurology referral cases within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You'll play a vital part in ensuring the highest standards of patient care throughout their treatment journey, in a hospital equipped with fantastic facilities and supported by expert specialists.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Nursing care of hospitalised patients (either in ICU or day wards)
  2. Performing anaesthetic monitoring of patients during advanced diagnostic procedures, e.g., MRI
  3. Anaesthesia and surgical preparation for those undergoing surgical interventions
  4. Assisting with the daily running and maintenance of specialist equipment
  5. Supporting our wards & rehabilitation teams with the post-operative care of neurological patients

Our ideal candidate will be a dedicated and passionate nurse with a keen interest in veterinary neurology. We are looking for someone who has prior experience working in referral or who wishes to advance their nursing knowledge and skills within the specialist discipline of neurology. You will join an experienced team that will provide practical training and support, enabling you to diversify your skillset.

Joining a team you are proud to be part of

SCVS is a specialist-led small animal hospital equipped with the expertise and knowledge to support the most complex cases. As a large multidisciplinary referral hospital, we offer impressive facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, enabling us to provide outstanding treatment from initial consultation to discharge. We are conveniently based in Ringwood, Hampshire, just off the A31.

Our recent expansion has provided us with a new purpose-built theatre complex, a two-storey facility housing a large client reception and waiting area, 10 new consulting rooms, and a new rehabilitation centre. Further additions include a new diagnostic suite and ICU area.

We have an outstanding team of recognised specialists across multiple disciplines, including a dedicated rehabilitation team providing physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to aid post-operative recovery. Our advanced nursing team ensures excellent patient care during their stay, supported by dedicated veterinary care assistants.

Our Neurology team comprises 2 full-time Neurology Nurses, supported by RVNs from our Multidisciplinary and Anaesthesia teams, as well as a dedicated Neurology VCA, Neurology Clinicians, 2 Residents, and 1 Intern.

What you will bring to our team

  • The successful candidate should possess the confidence to take initiative and actively contribute to patient care.
  • A keen interest in neurological cases is essential.
  • Previous experience in a referral practice is beneficial.
  • Relevant certificates or post-graduate qualifications are desirable.

Shift pattern

This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position on a 5-week rolling rota. We can accommodate a 4 or 5-day working week, Monday to Friday, and 1:5 weekends with TOIL. Please note there is no scheduled on-call or OOH work; however, occasional overtime may be required in emergencies or if cases run over time.

Because our people matter

We recognize that our staff are fundamental to our success. We invest in our teams and facilities, offering a competitive salary up to £33,500 pa, commensurate with experience, along with benefits such as:

  • 6.6 weeks of annual leave
