Job description

Registered Veterinary Nurse | Independent Practice

Up to £39,000 DOE + CPD support

Full-time | Permanent – 4-day week

Muswell Hill, North London

Are you an RVN looking for a genuinely independent practice where your experience and ideas are valued?

Do you enjoy a busy, hands-on clinical environment where no two days are the same?

Looking for a practice where you can develop your own nursing interests while being part of a close-knit team?

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a long-established, family-run veterinary practice in Muswell Hill.

Established in the 1970s, this independent practice has built a strong reputation within the local community and has an exceptionally loyal team, with several members of staff having been with the practice for many years.

The practice is currently undergoing an exciting refurbishment and expansion, creating additional space for the team, new services and dedicated nurse clinics.

The Role

This is a varied RVN position within a busy first-opinion practice, offering plenty of opportunity to get involved across the full nursing role.

Anaesthesia and surgical nursing will form a significant part of your day, from preparing patients and administering medications through to anaesthetic monitoring, record keeping and post-operative care. You will also support with admissions and discharges, laboratory work and the smooth running of the daily operations list.

The team are looking for someone who is confident working at pace, able to use their initiative and happy to get stuck in wherever needed.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing patients for surgical procedures
  • Supporting and monitoring anaesthesia
  • Maintaining accurate anaesthetic and patient records
  • Preparing medications and supporting peri-operative care
  • Assisting with surgical procedures and patient discharge
  • Running routine laboratory tests, including urine analysis
  • Supporting the wider veterinary team with daily caseload management
  • Communicating confidently with clients regarding patient care
  • Contributing to the development of nursing services within the practice
Develop Your Nursing Interests

The practice is keen to support its nurses in developing areas of individual interest wherever possible.

As the current refurbishment progresses, there will be greater scope to develop dedicated nurse clinics, with areas such as diabetic, renal and geriatric care already being considered.

There will also be opportunities to develop your clinical skills and potentially take on additional responsibilities as the practice grows.

For an experienced RVN, there is potential to progress into a senior or head nurse position in the future, alongside opportunities to support and coach Student Veterinary Nurses.

The Practice

This is a busy, independent veterinary practice with a genuinely family-run feel.

The team currently consists of six Veterinary Surgeons, six Registered Veterinary Nurses and two VCAs, creating a close-knit environment where everyone plays an important role in keeping the practice running smoothly.

The practice manages a broad first-opinion caseload, with nurses able to remain heavily involved throughout the patient journey rather than simply handing cases over elsewhere.

The current refurbishment and extension will provide additional clinical space and allow the team to expand the services available to both patients and clients.

The Team & Culture

One of the biggest strengths of the practice is its people.

There is a strong sense of loyalty and long-term commitment, with several members of the team having been at the practice for a decade or significantly longer, and some approaching 30 years.

The culture is friendly, informal and supportive, with strong relationships across the team despite the fast-paced nature of the practice.

They are looking for someone who will contribute positively to this environment — someone who works well with others, is happy to take responsibility, communicates confidently with clients and responds constructively to feedback.
