About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in Durham, with a salary of £29,000–£35,000 FTE depending on experience.

The role is open to both experienced RVNs and newly qualified Veterinary Nurses, with full-time and part-time options available. The role includes no out-of-hours or Sunday work, with a manageable 1 in 5 Saturday rota alongside another nurse.

Experienced RVNs will also have the opportunity to progress towards a hybrid Senior RVN position, taking on additional responsibilities while remaining closely involved in clinical nursing.

About the Practice

The practice is an established small animal veterinary team based in Durham, an attractive city renowned for its historic cathedral and castle.

The clinical team includes 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 9 RVNs and 1 SVN, supported by a Practice Manager, Administrator and Client Care Coordinators.

The practice actively encourages RVNs to utilise their clinical skills, including Schedule 3 procedures, and the nursing team has developed expertise across areas including anaesthesia, exotics, feline-friendly nursing, Emergency & Critical Care and nutrition.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients across a varied small animal caseload.

• Utilise clinical nursing skills confidently within the practice.

• Undertake appropriate Schedule 3 procedures.

• Assist with anaesthesia, surgery, inpatient care and patient monitoring.

• Support excellent standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

• Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

• Work collaboratively within the wider veterinary team.

• Contribute ideas to improve clinical standards and nursing processes.

• For experienced nurses, support and mentor colleagues where appropriate.

• Help oversee theatre organisation and workflow as part of a Senior RVN pathway.

• Support the development of junior members of the nursing team.

• Contribute to a positive, friendly and collaborative working environment.

Candidate Profile
