Job description

To co-ordinate and provide skilled clinical practise (without direct supervision) to patients, in accordance with responsibilities under NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based clinical care to a group of patients.
  • Contributing to the continued development of Nurses/Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), including the supervision of junior nurses/ODPs and support staff.
  • Assisting and contributing to the management and organisation of a theatre or unit.
  • Actively contributing to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing/ODP care.
  • Actively participating in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
  • Acting as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.
  • Working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
