Job description

Ward 35 currently has 3 band 5 registered nurse vacancies. Duties will be worked across days, nights and weekends.


Ward 35 is a 26 bedded elderly medicine ward that specialises in movement disorders. The ward is made up of 4 bays and 4 side rooms, catering for patients over the age of 65 years. Ward 35 has 3 consultants, and therapists are ward based, working with our staff and patients to prevent deconditioning.


We have a collaborative approach to patient care which begins with the SAFER board round at 9am, allowing a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure high standards of evidence-based care is provided, supporting patient flow and valuing patient time.


The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care. Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward manager/charge nurse. The post holder will always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.


Clinical Responsibilities
  1. Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  2. Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care.
  3. Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines.
  4. Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  5. Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  6. Provide information and support to patients/carers, ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient’s condition.
  7. Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  8. Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
  9. Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, in order to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
  10. Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivering of care.
  11. Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.
