Brookwood Hospital is part of the largest healthcare network, offering specialty and primary care physicians across five hospitals in Central Alabama. It is a 645-bed comprehensive medical center with prominent programs in cardiovascular care, emergency services, neurosciences, orthopedics, oncology, mental health (one of the largest providers in the state), and Alabama's first dedicated women's hospital. Position Summary
This role involves administering patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting, where an acute care patient receives active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention assessments.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized care plans based on patient responses; evaluate progress towards expected outcomes.
- Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with team members and patients.
- Act as a patient and family advocate.
- Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
- Serve as preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician.
- Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective planning and management.
- Model professional behavior, supporting hospital and nursing goals.
- Understand growth and development principles, assess patient status, and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
- Coordinate care and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Document patient care accurately, including assessments, education, medications, treatments, and safety measures.
- Maintain competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
- Prioritize patient care according to Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
- Identify and resolve problems effectively.
- Delegate tasks based on patient needs and team capabilities.
- Communicate patient conditions and concerns effectively.
- Provide compassionate, therapeutic environments for patients and families.
- Be aware of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Support onboarding and ongoing education for new staff and students.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with organizational policies and standards.
- Contribute to quality improvement, participate in committees, peer reviews, mentoring, and professional development.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and resource-efficient work environment.
- Attend required training and meetings.
- Partner with leadership to identify and address professional development needs.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an approved nursing school.
- Meet all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific department.
Licensure/Certification
- Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate license.
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications required for specific areas; NRP for NICU.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for in-home nursing duties.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, unless approved by AVP or higher.
- For Hospital Care at Home, 2 years of acute care nursing experience required.
Note: Cath lab experience highly preferred.
