Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit at Colchester Hospital. We are looking for a nurse with previous surgical experience.

Our nurse led team deliver pre-operative assessment to patients who will be undergoing a range of procedures within the specialties of Urology, General Surgery, Upper GI, ENT, Vascular, Oral, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic and Breast surgery.

Working closely with anaesthetic colleagues and surgeons, we are a forward thinking, innovative team who relish a challenge and who are responsive to the needs of the service and the requirements of our patients.

Training and support in order to reach the competence required to deliver your assessments autonomously will be given and there will be opportunities to develop your clinical skills to enhance your patient care.

Currently the unit is open 07.00 - 18:00 Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Key components of the role of the pre-operative assessment nurse are preparing the patient, and those close to them, for their forthcoming surgery, physically, psychologically and through education. Thorough assessment and appropriate actions are key to highlighting and minimising operative risk, and delivering safe outcomes, through careful pathway planning.

In this role you will be expected to physically examine the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in defined patients, so experience in this area would be a real asset.

You will be a motivated individual who ideally should have current or recent experience in acute surgical pathways, although assessing acutely ill medical patients could also be just as useful.

We are one of the largest NHS organisations in England, employing more than 12,000 staff

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what's widely regarded as the world's best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you
