Epsom College seeks a part-time Registered Nurse to join its Medical Centre team, providing essential care to pupils during term time. The role involves various shifts, including on-call duties, and requires a nursing qualification along with excellent communication and organisational skills. The position offers a supportive environment within a busy school setting, with additional benefits such as free meals and use of fitness facilities.
REGISTERED NURSE - MEDICAL CENTRE
Part Time – term time only
Temporary to cover long term absence.
Epsom College is an independent co-educational day and boarding school with approximately 1150 pupils from the age of 11 – 18. The College was founded in 1853 and retains strong links with its parent charity, The Royal Medical Foundation.
It is set in an attractive campus of some 72 acres and is located approximately one mile south of Epsom Town and is a busy community with many fine facilities. The Medical Centre, which provides 24-hour medical care during term time, comprises a consulting room, treatment room, on duty night ‘on-call nurses room’ and in-patient facility. The healthcare provision is supported by GPs from a local surgery, as well as onsite counselling and physiotherapy services.
The on-going success of the school has increased our pupils numbers resulting in the requirement to expand our Medical Centre team and we are, therefore, looking for a nurse(s) to cover various shifts including short shifts (6 hours), Long day (12 hours) and a sleeping on call duty during the Epsom College term time, including weekends, as part of the Medical Centre Roster. The Nurse would be required to stay in the Medical Centre during the sleeping on call duty and ‘on-call nurses room’ is available when the nurse is not attending to pupil patients.
The nursing team provides an essential and important part of the welfare support within the College to both pupils and staff. Apart from obvious in-patient care and emergency treatment, the nurses have a pastoral role to play and must be able to communicate effectively with both pupils and staff, particularly Boarding Housemasters, Mistresses and Matrons.
Experience in A&E, Practice Nursing or Paediatric Child Care would be advantageous but just as important is a genuine interest in working with young people. A lively, friendly and approachable personality and excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently.
The nursing staff are expected to either already hold a valid First Aid/BLS Certificate (HSE recognised) or to take an appropriate course within three months of taking up the post.
