Care Management
  • Understand scrub and circulating roles and responsibilities.
  • Be competent in all aspects of scrub/circulating techniques and procedures.
  • Participate in safety procedures, including briefings, checklists, and specimen management.
  • Work as a skilled member of the perioperative team, responsible for patient care assessment during surgery.
  • Efficiently run theatre lists following policies.
  • Manage resources within your designated areas, including planning team allocations.
  • Maintain and ensure the proper functioning and cleanliness of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Supervise junior staff, providing assessment and advice on patient conditions.
  • Support policy development for equipment and hazardous substances safety.
Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or Registered ODP with HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable

  • Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to undertake after 2 years.
  • Post basic specialist qualifications (e.g., perioperative modules, Surgical First Assistant).

Work Experience

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse/ODP in surgical specialties.
  • Training in extended roles like IV drug administration, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, male catheterisation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, report writing, record keeping.
  • Team development contribution.
  • Good IT skills, with development expected.
  • Organisational skills, problem-solving, ability to remain calm under pressure.
