Medirooms are looking for motivated, dynamic and passionate individuals to join their team!
A new concept in healthcare, our Medirooms combine the traditional recovery, day-case, same-day and admission areas into a single patient room environment, specifically designed to enhance patient experience by improving the level of privacy and dignity that these areas were traditionally able to offer. Patients also benefit from continuity of care as they are admitted, recovered and discharged/transferred by the same Mediroom team.
Our Practice Facilitators support staff through training programme and regular catch-up/reviews to help them achieve their competencies and support their wellbeing.
We provide a wide range of in-house training and a preceptor is assigned to support your continuing professional development
The Brunel Building has 24 operating theatre rooms, with 72 single patient Medirooms situated in close proximity to the theatres - the Medirooms are arranged in 5 clusters over 2 floors.
You will also work in our Medirooms and PACU areas in other Operating Theatre Departments across the Southmead Hospital site including Park View Theatres, Cotswold Theatres and the Bristol Surgical Centre.
We currently have opportunities available for:
- Registered ODP's with current HCPC registration
- Experienced Registered Nurses with current NMC Registration
- Newly Qualified and Newly Qualifying Nurses, ready to take the leap from theory to the clinical setting
Main duties of the job
Your main duties will include:
- Direct patient care in the Mediroom and PACU areas.
- Identifying individual patient requirements and acting effectively on changing needs, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
- Organising time, equipment and staff to deliver safe and efficient patient care.
- Giving skilled support to the multidisciplinary team.
- Administering drugs and treatments as prescribed in accordance with Trust Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Effective communication within departments and multidisciplinary team.
- Advising patients, theircarersand other staff on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
- Recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individual and institutes preventative measures.
- Identifyingthe priorities of care for patients, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
- Organisingand participatingin the delivery of high standards ofevidence-based nursing care.

Care Management
- Provides direct patient care in themedi-room areas commensurate with their post.
- Is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care of patients

- Demonstrates effective communication within departments and multidisciplinary team.

Quality Management
- Report to nurse in charge/line manager all complaints, incidents or accidents involving self, staff, patients, visitors and complete relevant documentation according to Trust procedure.
- Ensure the safe custody of patients’ valuables and property according to Trust policies.

Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current live NMC registration or Registered ODP with HCPC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Teaching and assessing qualification (998 or equivalent) or willing to undertake after 2 years post registration (secured a position on this type of course)
Work Experience
- Recent care experience within an acute setting
- Experience as a Registered Nurse across a range of (surgical) specialties
- Evidence of having completed training for extended roles, i.e. IV drug administration, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, male catheterisation pump training.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Effective communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping.
- Contribution to team development
- Effective computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service
