Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

Brookwood Hospital is part of the largest network of healthcare providers, with specialty and primary care physicians across five hospitals in Central Alabama. It is a 645-bed comprehensive medical center featuring cardiovascular, emergency, neurosciences, orthopedics, oncology, mental health programs (one of the largest in the state), and Alabama's first dedicated women's hospital. The hospital aims to provide nationally recognized, high-quality care to the Birmingham community.

Position Summary

This role involves administering patient care in hospital or inpatient settings for patients with advanced illnesses or injuries requiring timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support their medical condition. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Demonstrates critical knowledge, skills, and judgment to care for patients requiring complex assessment, therapies, high-intensity interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance.
  2. Utilizes assessment data to anticipate and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  3. Identifies and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused actions.
  4. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment, interprets electronic displays such as intracranial pressures, cardiac rhythms, and ventilator parameters.
  5. Responds to life-saving situations following nursing standards and protocols.
  6. Observes, assesses, and recognizes serious patient situations, calling physicians or initiating emergency measures as needed.
  7. Develops and revises individualized care plans based on patient needs and responses, evaluating progress toward outcomes.
  8. Builds respectful relationships with team members and patients, respecting diversity.
  9. Acts as a patient and family advocate.
  10. Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating advanced nursing knowledge and skills.
  11. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician.
  12. Collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective planning and management.
  13. Models professional behavior and supports hospital and nursing goals.
  14. Assesses patient needs across the lifespan, interpreting data to identify specific requirements.
  15. Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately.
  16. Documents patient care accurately, meeting regulatory standards.
  17. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
  18. Prioritizes patient care based on evidence-based standards.
  19. Practices effective problem resolution and delegates tasks appropriately.
  20. Communicates patient condition and unit concerns effectively.
  21. Provides compassionate, therapeutic care environments.
  22. Maintains awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate of an approved nursing school.
  • Meets all competency requirements for Orlando Health and specific units.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Alabama RN license or valid multistate RN license.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas; NRP for NICU.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required unless approved by AVP or higher.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience, especially in Neuro or Cath Lab settings, highly preferred.
