Position Summary

Administers patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess patient needs and develop/revise individualized care plans based on patient responses. Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes.
  2. Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and patients.
  3. Act as a patient and family advocate.
  4. Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
  5. Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, or nurse clinician.
  6. Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to effectively plan and manage care.
  7. Model professional behavior and support hospital and nursing department goals.
  8. Understand principles of growth and development, assess patient data, and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
  9. Coordinate patient care and delegate tasks appropriately to team members.
  10. Document patient care accurately, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety, meeting all regulatory standards.
  11. Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of equipment as defined by unit-specific requirements.
  12. Prioritize patient care according to Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  13. Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  14. Delegate tasks based on patient needs and team members' capabilities and qualifications.
  15. Communicate patient condition and unit concerns to team members.
  16. Provide compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
  17. Be aware of legal issues and patients' rights.
  18. Collaborate with education and leadership to support new team members and students.
  19. Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with policies and standards.
  20. Comply with all hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.

Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. Additional certifications like ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas; NRP for NICU.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience unless approved by AVP level or above.
