Position Summary
Administers patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assesses patient needs and develops/revises individualized care plans based on patient responses, evaluating progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with team members and patients.
- Acts as a patient and family advocate.
- Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills for patients' age groups.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician.
- Collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective planning and management.
- Supports hospital and nursing goals by serving as a role model.
- Uses knowledge of growth and development to assess patient data and identify needs based on age-specific requirements.
- Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
- Documents patient care accurately, including assessment, education, medication, treatments, and safety, meeting all standards.
- Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
- Prioritizes patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
- Identifies and resolves problems effectively.
- Delegates duties according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition and concerns to team members.
- Provides compassionate, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Supports new team members and students through collaboration with education and leadership teams.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per policies and standards.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Contributes to ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participates in and may lead committees on nursing practice and performance improvement.
- Engages in peer review, mentoring, and coaching.
- Uses supplies efficiently and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
- Attends staff development, meetings, and committees.
- Partners with leadership to identify training needs.
- Owns professional growth and continuing education.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the specific unit.
Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
