Position Summary

Administers patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Assesses patient needs and develops/revises individualized care plans based on patient responses, evaluating progress toward expected outcomes.
  2. Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with team members and patients.
  3. Acts as a patient and family advocate.
  4. Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills for patients' age groups.
  5. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician.
  6. Collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective planning and management.
  7. Supports hospital and nursing goals by serving as a role model.
  8. Uses knowledge of growth and development to assess patient data and identify needs based on age-specific requirements.
  9. Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
  10. Documents patient care accurately, including assessment, education, medication, treatments, and safety, meeting all standards.
  11. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
  12. Prioritizes patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
  13. Identifies and resolves problems effectively.
  14. Delegates duties according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities.
  15. Communicates patient condition and concerns to team members.
  16. Provides compassionate, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  17. Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
  18. Supports new team members and students through collaboration with education and leadership teams.
  19. Maintains regular, punctual attendance per policies and standards.
  20. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the specific unit.

Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
