Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital

Position Summary: Administers patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, medical condition, or post-intervention with assessment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Assesses patient needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient responses. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes.
  2. Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
  3. Functions as a patient and family advocate.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  5. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  6. Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to plan and manage the unit/department.
  7. Serves as a role model and supports hospital and nursing department goals.
  8. Demonstrates understanding of growth and development over the lifespan, assesses patient data, and interprets information to identify patient requirements.
  9. Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately.
  10. Documents patient care accurately, including assessments, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety measures.
  11. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
  12. Prioritizes patient care according to Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
  13. Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
  14. Delegates tasks based on patient needs and team member capabilities.
  15. Communicates patient condition and unit concerns effectively.
  16. Provides compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  17. Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  18. Collaborates on training and supporting new team members and students.
  19. Maintains regular, punctual attendance and complies with all policies and standards.

Other Related Functions:

  1. Contributes to team knowledge, skills, and quality improvement initiatives.
  2. Participates in and may lead committees and peer reviews.

Hospital Care at Home Program Functions

Patient Care Hub: Administers patient care via TeleHealth technology, assessing needs, developing care plans, and collaborating with in-home staff to support patient needs. Demonstrates age-appropriate care skills.

In-home Nursing: Provides direct patient care in the home setting, assessing needs, collaborating with the virtual team, and demonstrating autonomy and competency in the hospital at home environment. Capable of using virtual technology for patient visits, and transporting items and medications as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.

Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate license, BLS certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for specific areas; NRP for NICU. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for in-home nursing.

Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience unless approved otherwise. For Hospital Care at Home, 2 years of acute care nursing experience is required.
