The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Additionally, the nurse directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the assigned patient population. An RN II must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies as identified by the Director/Designee, and meet Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming charge nurse responsibilities, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, and engaging in educational activities. The portfolio must be current and submitted annually by March 1st. The RN routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer reviews, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
Advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 hours (936 hours if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation.
New hires must obtain AHA appropriate certification prior to completing orientation.
