We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our team. As a Band 5 RMN, you will be providing high-quality nursing care to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, promoting recovery, and delivering person-centred support. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment, where your role will make a real difference to the lives of service users.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver professional, compassionate, and effective care to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, ensuring a holistic approach to their physical, psychological, and emotional well-being.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans in collaboration with service users and their families, supporting recovery and helping patients to achieve their personal goals.
  • Monitor and assess the mental and physical health of patients, identifying any changes in their condition and taking appropriate action.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, including administering medication, offering counselling, and supporting patients through their recovery process.
  • Safeguard vulnerable individuals and support their rights to autonomy, dignity, and independence.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and support staff to ensure a coordinated and effective care plan for each service user.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records in accordance with regulatory standards and trust policies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and carers, providing information and support to enable informed decision-making about care and treatment.
  • Carry out risk assessments and contribute to care planning for service users at risk of self-harm, harm to others, or other mental health crises.
  • Support the management of challenging behaviour using appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions, ensuring the safety of service users, staff, and visitors.
  • Professional Development:
  • Keep up to date with the latest research and best practices in mental health nursing.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, attending training and supervision sessions as required.
  • Support and mentor junior staff and students, offering guidance and sharing knowledge to foster learning and development.
  • Regulatory and Legal Compliance:
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and all relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act, safeguarding protocols, and health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with trust policies and procedures, maintaining high standards of care and safety at all times.
  • Supporting Recovery:
  • Support the development of individual recovery plans, working collaboratively with service users to set achievable goals and promote long-term recovery.
  • Encourage and facilitate patients’ involvement in meaningful activities, building confidence and skills to support independence.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration.
  • Evidence of a current and valid DBS check.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a mental health nursing role (desirable but not essential for newly qualified nurses).
  • Experience in acute or community mental health settings is an advantage.
  • An understanding of mental health conditions and treatments, as well as relevant legislation (e.g., the Mental Health Act).

Skills:

  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with patients and their families.
  • Compassionate and patient-centred approach to care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resilience, with the ability to manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.

Personal Attributes:
